Privacy Policy

Smart TV Remote ("the App", "we") is built and maintained by an independent developer. This Privacy Policy describes what data the App and this website (smartvremote.com) collect, why, and how it's handled.
What the App does not do
The App does not require an account, does not have a login, and does not collect your name, email address, or contact information. It communicates directly with your TV over your local Wi-Fi network — the commands you send (volume, channel, navigation, and so on) stay on your network and are not routed through or stored on our servers.
What the App may collect
Per the App Privacy details on the App Store listing, the App may collect the following, none of which is linked to your identity:
- Usage data — aggregate, anonymised information about how the App is used, via Apple's built-in App Store analytics.
- Diagnostics — crash logs and performance data, used only to fix bugs and improve stability.
Local network access
To discover and control your TV, the App needs permission to find and connect to devices on your local network. It uses this access only to locate compatible TVs and send remote-control commands to the one you choose. It does not scan for, catalogue, or transmit information about other devices on your network.
This website
The website has no accounts, forms, or ads. To see which guides and tools are useful, it uses Google Analytics 4 and Ahrefs Web Analytics. They receive page views, referrer, device and browser type, and an approximate location derived from your IP address. We do not sell this data and do not use it for advertising or profiling. Our host, Vercel, records request metadata (IP address, user agent, time) for security and performance.
Our own visit counter (first party) — when a page opens and when you tap an App Store or Google Play button, your browser sends a single word ("visit", "page view", "App Store" or "Google Play") to our own server, which adds one to a daily total. Nothing else is recorded: no IP address, no user agent, no page address, no identifier. It sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser, so it runs without the cookie banner — but not when your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control.
Legal basis for visitors in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland: your consent for analytics cookies; legitimate interest for cookieless measurement and for hosting logs that keep the site secure and working.
Cookies
Reading this website does not require any cookie. The only cookies it can set are analytics cookies:

- EEA, UK, and Switzerland — these cookies stay off until you press "Accept" in the cookie banner. Until then Google Analytics runs in Consent Mode and receives page views without cookies or any identifier stored on your device.
- Other regions — analytics cookies are set by default. You can turn them off at any time with the cookie settings button below or in the footer.
- Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control — if your browser sends either signal, we load no analytics at all (not even the cookieless Ahrefs Web Analytics or our own visit counter) and show no banner.
- Your choice — we remember it in your browser's local storage (key
stv_consent_v1), not in a cookie. Declining also deletes analytics cookies already set on this site.
Ahrefs Web Analytics does not use cookies. We set no advertising cookies; Google's advertising signals are always off. The interactive tools (remote finder, diagnostics) save your progress in local storage on your device only — it is never sent to us. With JavaScript disabled, no analytics are recorded.

- Apple — App Store distribution and the App's usage and crash analytics
Some of these providers process data outside your country (for example in the United States or Singapore); those transfers rely on the providers' standard contractual clauses or, where certified, the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
Retention
- Google Analytics event data: up to 14 months, then deleted; aggregated reports that identify no one may be kept longer.
- Hosting request logs: per Vercel's standard retention.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or UK GDPR), you can ask for access to, correction, or deletion of your data, object to or restrict its processing, and withdraw consent at any time — withdrawing does not affect processing that already happened. You can also complain to your local data protection authority. Write to the address below; analytics data is pseudonymous, so we may need the cookie value from your browser to find it.
Third-party products
The App controls televisions and streaming platforms made by third parties (such as TCL, Roku, Google, and Amazon). Those products have their own privacy policies governing how they handle data; we don't control and aren't responsible for their practices.
Children's privacy
The App is rated 4+ on the App Store and is not directed at children specifically, but it collects no personal information from any user regardless of age, per the data practices described above.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and post the revised version at this same URL.
